Visiting St. Elia
image

We serve the Divine Liturgy on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of each month at 11:00 AM. The service is in English and runs about an hour and a half. The church is at 103 Palmer St. in Jamestown, and there is street parking.

If you have never been to an Orthodox service before, a few things are useful to know ahead of time.

The service is almost entirely sung, a chanter leads the responses. People stand during parts of the service and sit during others. We have pews, and if you are not sure what to do at any point, sitting is always fine.

You will notice people crossing themselves, bowing, and kissing icons when they come in. Visitors are not expected to do any of these things.

Holy Communion in the Orthodox Church is received only by Orthodox Christians who have prepared for it. Near the end of the service blessed bread is offered, and everyone is welcome to come up for a piece.

Most people dress neatly out of respect for the service. Children are welcome and stay in the service with their families.

We are a small parish and usually have coffee after the Liturgy. You are welcome to stay. Fr. John is glad to answer questions before or after the service, or you can use the form below to get in touch first.

If you would like to learn more about the Orthodox faith itself, see our About Orthodoxy page.
